The Medical Staff Services team at our hospital plays a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of care and professionalism among our medical staff. They work closely with physicians to support their practice and maintain a safe and efficient healthcare environment. We interviewed the team to understand their role and goals.

Role of the Department

The team confirms the competencies of physicians to ensure quality care is provided to patients. They also support our new and current physician members with onboarding, transcribing official minutes of department and committee meetings, supporting the teaching faculty with credentialing and onboarding of their residents and medical students, and providing resources such as quality. accredited CME events, including educational lectures on various topics.

Goals as a Team

One of the key goals of the team is for all the coordinators to become certified and work on being a cohesive unit with our medical staff members. Favorite Aspects of Working as a Team. The Medical Staff enjoys the teamwork, especially working in a challenging environment where there is always an opportunity to learn. They also enjoy collaborating with the various departments and providers.

The team is excited on the appointment of their Director, William Lee, as the State Secretary of the California Association of Medical Staff Services and believes that this will help them expand their knowledge in this field by networking with other hospitals and learning the best practices.

William Lee, Director of Medical Staff Services is Appointed Secretary of CAMSS

On May 31, William Lee, Director of Medical Staff Services at CHA HPMC, was sworn into his new appointment as State Secretary of the California Association of Medical Staff Services (CAMSS). Will has been a welcome addition to our hospital in the Medical Staff Services department.

What is the CAMSS? And what does your role as Secretary entail?

CAMSS has been around 57 years under the umbrella of the National Association of Medical Services. The organization consistently updates the bylaws for Medical Staff Services, keeps us regulated and has basically transformed the profession. We were initially considered secretaries and through years of litigation and regulation, we became gatekeepers of patient safety. Our job, as leaders of this organization, is to bring caregivers proper credentialing in order to maintain patient and caregiver safety and improve their overall experience and career trajectory.

The board of CAMSS includes the President, President-elect, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Secretary position is the owner of all of the documents in the entire organization My duties involve keeping minutes in the quarterly meetings that we attend, which will be at this facility, because we always use our signature line of work to host the meetings.

What are you most looking forward to accomplishing during your two-year term as Secretary? And how do you anticipate weaving your experience with CAMSS into your role and the team operations at CHA HPMC?

My goal is to be of service to the greater Los Angeles community and to this hospital through my appointment with CAMSS. Similar to the way Linette networks to help improve the development and educational enrichment of her staff, I will do the same with CAMSS. My role in the organization will open up many opportunities for my team and for the hospital, which is probably the biggest benefit of the appointment. CHA HPMC will honor any courses completed through CAMSS as CEUs or continuing education credits.
